Bruce Trail Solo Record Attempt

On June 19, 2010 Charlotte Vasarhelyi, one of Canada’s most accomplished endurance athletes will attempt a monumental feat – break the 894km Bruce Trail Solo Record. If you’re not familiar with the Bruce Trail, it is Canada’s longest hiking and winds its way up and down and across the Niagara Escarpment. The current record is from 2005 when Clayton Smith covered an 885km route in less than 15 days. Charlotte is attempting to complete the route in 11 days, averaging approximately 82+km a day. Charlotte’s ultra running accomplishments are well known, she was a member of the Blaze Trail Relay team that holds the team relay record for the Bruce Trail, member of Team Canada at the 24 hour world championships in Brive France and has completed numerous ultra marathons. The level of difficulty of this challenge combined with the amount of reverence many Ontario residents (and Canadians) hold for the Bruce Trail is what makes this truly an epic record attempt. This may be true Canadian history in the making.
